Local safety personnel to hold regional safety exercise

September 12, 2012
Area police and fire departments are using National Preparedness Month to remind residents of just how important it is to be ready for emergency situations.

To help spread the message, the Sturbridge Police Department is asking all residents and businesses to make an emergency kit and family or business plan. Their efforts are supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Resolve to be Ready Campaign, a nationwide effort designed to increase awareness and encourage individuals, families, businesses and communities to take action and prepare for emergencies.

"The department has taken several important steps in the past year concerning our involvement with our residents," said Sgt. Kevin Mercier. "We have reenergized our Community Emergency Response Team and implemented a Map Your Neighborhood program as well. Map Your Neighborhood is a program which focuses on the first nine steps you should take after a disaster."
