Senate OKs charter changes

November vote not possible in Southbridge

September 11, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — Almost nine months after the Town Council approved them, the Senate finally sent 10 proposed charter changes to Gov. Deval Patrick for signature Sept. 6.

By the time you read this, the governor may have signed them (he legally has until Sept. 16). Unfortunately, the deadline to put them on November's ballot was in June, according to the Secretary of State's office.

"It was a long time coming, but I'm happy to have it finalized," said Town Manager Chris Clark. "Now we have to find a way to put it on the ballot."
