Town Council panel rejects 'remote participation'

September 09, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — A consensus of the General Government subcommittee came to the conclusion it had "no interest" in the idea of adopting "remote participation" for Southbridge town boards.

"I brought this forward because I had been contacted by a couple of board members outside the Town Council," said Council Chairman Cathy Nikolla, who later made it clear that "my first reaction was 'I hate this.'"

She said she proposed it because "it's my duty," but was very concerned about the idea creating a variety of problems on many boards if implemented, including allowing leaks of executive session discussions.
