District still working on bus, oil spill issues

SOUTHBRIDGE — As students are already discovering, the new bus system looks quite a bit different from last year.

"For the first time ever, we're transporting 100 percent of the middle school and high school students," said Ron Ernenwein, president of AA Transportation, the district's bus contractor. Speaking to last week's School Committee meeting, he noted they opted to do so even for those within the one mile radius because long stretches of Guelphwood and Torrey roads have no sidewalk.

That means there are several more buses running morning and afternoon routes overall. For younger students, though, the routes are also geographically different, since Ernenwein said he has dedicated four buses to each elementary school rather than having all buses visit all schools. As a result, he expects "routes to be shorter."
