SOUTHBRIDGE — This past spring, Leann Pate ran for School Committee largely because of her concern for special education.

Today, she's chairman of the local Special Education Parents Advisory Council, a parent group that's aiming to bring parents, teachers, district administrators, local agencies and others together to ensure special needs kids get the various services they need.

"We need special needs parents to come out and work as a group, so we can go to the district and work the best we can to resolve these issues," Pate said Monday. "We don't want it to be a head-butting contests because that doesn't serve the kids."
