STURBRIDGE — If you've traveled on Route 131 lately, chances are you noticed some new developments across from Shaw's Supermarket.

Town officials are pleased by the progress that has been made on two projects in recent months. The first, Sturbridge Gas, is a brand new gas station and convenience store that is now open for business at 173 Main Street. Town Administrator Shaun Suhoski described the project as a substantial reinvestment along the Route 131 commercial corridor.

The second project, taking place next to Sturbridge Gas in the building formerly known as Rom's Restaurant, promises to make that space a lot busier than it had previously been. Developer Dan Matte is remodeling the building to house multiple businesses, including a new restaurant and pub recently approved for a liquor license by the Board of Selectmen. A nail salon and a physical therapy office are also expected to be located inside the mixed-use commercial site.
