Town Council OKs water main replacement

August 15, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — Taking advantage of the fact the state is rebuilding the Route 131/169 intersection, the Town Council voted unanimously to use $225,000 in water funds to replace the water line running through that area.

According to Town Manager Christopher Clark, the zone currently has two 8-inch water mains, but a recent study by Dewberry Engineering identified that size as "minimally adequate for fire suppression" and recommended increasing it to 12-inch. Right now, they're doing 1,100 feet of it, but will need to add another 1,000 that wouldn't be in the state project's area, so he said he and the DPW will come back for that later.

"With the work being done on the road, we didn't want to wait and have to open a brand new road in a year," he said.
