Locals speak out on Romney's choice for vice president

August 14, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — Local reaction to last weekend's formal announcement that Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was choosing Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate weren't at all surprising.

"I'm very happy about it. He's the most fiscally conservative member of Congress," said town GOP Committee Chairman Michael Jaynes. "He's from a swing state, and it could help even things out there. We've been having a bit of a tough time there."

Ryan's "a good choice" to shore up the Republican base, Jaynes said, adding that he figures most conservatives would vote Romney anyway because they perceive President Barack Obama to be "a far-left liberal."
