Selectmen reject Walker Road paving project

August 13, 2012
STURBRIDGE — A project that would have converted Walker Road into a paved roadway was shot down by selectmen at their meeting on Aug. 6.

A public hearing was held to allow residents to offer their input regarding the proposed project, which called for a major construction project to transform Walker Road from a gravel road to a paved 21-foot road. Preliminary estimates suggested that the cost of the project would have been between $600,000 and $625,000.

Several residents of Walker Road and abutting New Boston Road attended the hearing, and the majority of residents were opposed to the project due to cost, aesthetic and safety concerns.
