SOUTHBRIDGE — A local man was sentenced to 2.5 years in jail, 15 months to serve, after pleading guilty to charges related to the knifepoint kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend in June.

Early last month, Alexis Aponte, of 124 Pine St. was charged with kidnapping, threatening to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon (two knives), assault and battery, two counts of malicious destruction and witness intimidation.

On Tuesday, however, the prosecution at Dudley District Court agreed to drop the most serious charge (kidnapping), witness intimidation and one of the malicious destruction counts. Aponte pled guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon (knives), for which he'll do the time at the county jail, subject to drug and psychological evaluation and participation in the STOP substance abuse program there. He also pled guilty to assault and battery and one malicious destruction count, for which he'll be on probation until August 2014, and threatening, which was filed.
