Four businesses to face revocation hearings

July 30, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — At the town manager's recommendation, the Liquor Board will be holding public hearings on revoking four long-in-limbo liquor licenses, two in September and two in October.

At issue is the fact that licenses linked to Welcome Inn, Lazo's Cafe, Cheney's Steakhouse and Sevengaits have not been active for a long time, with Manager Christopher Clark characterizing them as "pocket licenses" that violate state law and providing the board with photos he said had been taken that day showing no activity at those locations during business hours.

Board members and Clark agree some of them, particularly Sevengaits and Cheney's, are actually new businesses working toward opening, while Welcome Inn voluntarily closed some time ago and wants to reopen.
