Government Services Study Committee fills final positions

July 29, 2012
STURBRIDGE — The Board of Selectmen filled the final positions on the Government Services Study Committee on July 23 by appointing Peter Levine and Aaron Smith as the two resident members.

Chaired by Selectman Priscilla Gimas, the GSSC also includes Selectman Mary Redetzke and Financial Committee member Prescott Arndt. The committee will conduct an overall efficiency study of all town departments that includes staffing reviews, analyses of hours associated with various services, cost and benefit ratio studies, and cost per resident ratio studies. Moreover, the committee will compartmentalize its study to include detailed reviews of department responsibility, compensation, sick days expended, overtime costs, department requests and needs, and staffing levels.

"Everyone on the committee is on the same page, and we are all looking forward to getting started," Gimas said. "After the first meeting we will have a much better idea of exactly how things are going to work. I don't want to tell the committee what direction it should go – I want to allow it to take its own direction."
