'One building, one principal'

School Committee approves Ely organization plan

July 26, 2012
SOUTHBRIDGE — After a fairly long debate, the School Committee approved Superintendent Eric Ely's plan to create a new administrative structure for the new middle/high school by a 4-3 vote.

His plan will have the building run by one principal with three assistant principals. He noted the principal will have final say, while the other three monitor behavior, support the principal in other ways and have oversight of certain groups of teachers, but whether they divide by grade or department remains to be seen. Other details of the trio's duties are still being worked out.

Afterward, Ely admitted he'll have to fill those slots "quickly," and indicated high school Assistant Principal Greg Leach will be one of them.
