STURBRIDGE — Following his one-day suspension last week, embattled building inspector David Lindberg resigned on Friday, July 20.

Lindberg's resignation was announced during the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday, July 23, less than one week after selectmen suspended him for providing them with false information. He had served as the town's building inspector in a part-time capacity since 2010.

Lindberg found himself in hot water for a number of reasons during the July 9 board meeting, including not documenting information properly, failing to respond to complaints from residents in a timely fashion, and allegedly enabling projects in town to occur without the proper permits being issued. Board of Selectmen Chairman Thomas Creamer also questioned Lindberg that night about reports that he had asked a member of his staff to sign documents that were his responsibility.
