HOLLAND — Martin Maketansky will ride in honor of his mother during yet another Pan-Mass Challenge this August, an event he has participated in for the last 18 years.

Maketansky's mother died from cancer, and he has been thrilled to keep her memory alive while raising money for cancer research as a rider in the PMC.

"I ride with my mom's picture on the handle bars. Every time I go out on my bike she's there," said Maketansky, a veterinarian at the Sturbridge Veterinary Hospital who himself battled two types of cancer.
