STURBRIDGE — Several New York city children were all smiles on Thursday, July 12, when they stepped off their bus and met the families they'll be spending a few weeks with as part of the Fresh Air Fund summer program.

With colorful posters in hand, many volunteer host families from throughout the area waited outside Cinemagic Theater for the bus to arrive. For some families it was a reunion with children they've hosted in the past, while others enjoyed an opportunity to greet children for the first time.

"I really think the host families sometimes get more out of this than the kids," said Vickie Cox-Lanyon, of Sutton, whose family has served as a host for five years. "It's nice to see the kids from New York run out the back door and play in the grass. Some of them have never had a chance to do that before."
