To most people in this area, the Last Green Valley is a place and group somewhere in Connecticut, even though Southbridge, Sturbridge and several surrounding towns are all part of it and its board has had local membership for years.

"They're discovering their presence in the Massachusetts towns is not significant enough, and if they want a presence they have to engage with the Massachusetts communities," said Alexandra McNitt, Chamber of Commerce director who recently became a LGV director. She points as an example at the annual Walktober events which are "incredibly well received, but its amazing how many people don't connect that event with the organization Last Green Valley."

She hopes to help LGV, whose headquarters is in Killingly, Conn., fix that, and believes "they're on the right road" toward doing so.
