STURBRIDGE — Suspicious clothing and an observant witness led to the arrests of two Southbridge men for armed robbery on July 1 after they attempted to rob Jack's Gas on Route 131.

Sgt. Kevin Mercier, Officer David Fortier, and Officer Daniel Hemingway were dispatched to Jack's Gas at approximately 4 p.m. after an employee reported that a male suspect wearing a hooded sweatshirt had attempted to rob the service station. The employee said the man had assaulted him by striking him twice in the face with his fist and placing a pointy object up to his throat. The suspect then fled on foot toward Fiske Hill Road.

Shortly before receiving the robbery call, it was reported to police that a suspicious blue Jeep was parked on Fiske Hill Road near the intersection with Route 131. The reporting party informed police that two people inside the Jeep were wearing hooded sweatshirts and felt their attire was suspicious because of the 90-degree temperatures.
