Newly formed committee to analyze services in town

July 02, 2012
STURBRIDGE — In an effort to improve efficiency in town government, the Sturbridge Board of Selectmen voted 3-2 to adopt a Government Services Study Committee (GSSC) at its June 25 meeting.

Chaired by Selectman Priscilla Gimas, the committee will also include selectman Mary Redetzke, one member of the Financial Committee, and two residents who do not serve the town in a paid capacity. The GSSC will function as a special committee of the board, reporting directly to selectmen and providing quarterly updates.

"The idea surfaced with me as a result of the very non-scientific approach we take towards increasing personnel, hours and wages with no true benchmark as to the return on investment," said Board of Selectmen Chairman Thomas Creamer, who described the committee's functions to selectmen on June 25.
