First-grade teacher Judy Cournoyer, right, talks about what Xavier Rivera’s weekly schedule will be with his mom, Carmen Torres, at West Street School. Like many teachers, Cournoyer is now working in a new building; she shifted from Eastford Road. Some of her colleagues at West and Charlton, however, chose to stay in their buildings but switched grades instead. School formally started this Tuesday, with Charlton and West now serving grades 1-5, Eastford serving pre-K and kindergarten, and the new middle/high school on Torrey Road grades 6-12. Gus Steeves.
